WTTC Hosts Historic Leadership Cruise on Egypt’s Suez Canal With 300+ Global Tourism Leaders

Dubai, 08 May 2026: From luxury cruising to billion-dollar tourism growth, Egypt is positioning itself as the world’s next major travel powerhouse.

In a landmark moment for the global travel industry, the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has brought together more than 300 influential leaders from the public and private sectors for an exclusive Leadership Cruise along Egypt’s legendary Suez Canal.

Held on 7 May 2026, the historic gathering highlights Egypt’s growing influence in global tourism and its remarkable post-pandemic recovery journey.

Supported by the Egyptian Government, the WTTC Leadership Cruise has attracted some of the biggest names in global tourism and hospitality, with sponsors including the Antonio Lefebvre Foundation, Visit Egypt, Crystal Cruises, Coral Travel Group, and luxury travel specialist Abercrombie & Kent.

The event is taking place aboard the luxurious Crystal Serenity, offering delegates a first-hand experience of Egypt’s evolving tourism landscape while opening discussions on the future of global travel and tourism recovery.

Speaking during the event, WTTC President & CEO Gloria Guevara praised Egypt’s extraordinary tourism growth and resilience.

According to WTTC data, Egypt’s Travel & Tourism sector contributed an impressive US$34.4 billion to the economy in 2025, while welcoming nearly 19 million international visitors.

Tourism revenues have also surged dramatically, rising from US$4.9 billion in 2020/21 to more than US$18 billion in 2025 — a transformation driven by major government investments and ambitious tourism expansion plans.

Egypt is now rapidly upgrading its tourism infrastructure with plans to double hotel room capacity from 240,000 rooms, increase aviation capacity across 27 airports, and expand high-speed rail connectivity throughout the country.

Adding to Egypt’s tourism momentum is the recent opening of Cairo’s highly anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum, one of the largest archaeological museums in the world.

The museum houses over 100,000 ancient artefacts, with around 20,000 items being displayed publicly for the very first time.
