UAE Initiates Strict Action Against Bangladeshi Rioters
Emirati officials vow to take the rioters to task.
Rioting due to a controversial job reservations bill in Bangladesh has spilled over into the UAE. But the government of the Gulf country is not going to stand for it. Local authorities have arrested a group of protestors from the South Asian nation for running rampant on Friday, July 19, 2024. The trouble-makers were taken in for a whole slew of offences which disturbed the peace and threatened national security.
These grievous charges include:
1) Instigating unrest and violent rioting
2) Proliferating of provocative audio-visuals
3) Assaulting and causing harm to others
4) Disrupting public transport and blocking traffic
5) Obstructing law enforcement and violating regulations
6) Damaging public and private property
These crimes came in protest against Bangladesh’s government offering a 30 per cent employment quota for relatives of army veterans who fought the 1971 war of independence. However, the recent agitation in the UAE, has prompted the need for investigations and punitive action against the culprits. The accused Bangladeshi nationals who thought their destructive ways would intimidate the UAE have more than met their match. The country’s Attorney General - Dr. Hamad Said Al Shamsi - has ordered an “urgent trial”, determined to bring the miscreants to book.
The arrested persons will be up against Public Prosecution shortly. It is clear that the national administrators are intent on setting a legal precedent in order to prevent similar rioting in the future. After all, the UAE is one of the most peaceful countries in the Middle East, investing heavily in law enforcement and justice. It is clear that the errant Bangladeshis have been barking up the wrong tree. Yes, their rabid behaviour has come into check by a formidable watch dog.
