Bus Accident in Jammu kills 21, Wounds Several Others
This is one of India's deadliest road accidents in recent times.
In a terrible bus mishap on Thursday, May 30th in India’s northern province of Jammu & Kashmir, 21 devotees have gone to meet their Maker in the most unfortunate possible way. Meanwhile 47 others are fighting for their lives. The vehicle was carrying the passengers from Kurukshetra in neighbouring Haryana to the town of Shivkhori in Jammu when it veered off the Jammu-Poonch highway and rolled down some 150 feet into a gorge.
According to police reports, the accident occurred at around 12:35 in the afternoon. Surviving passengers said that the driver of the ill-fated bus was steering the vehicle around a blind curve when suddenly a speeding car appeared from the opposite direction, causing the deadly error of judgement. The injured were rushed to the GMC hospital in Akhnoor where the principal medico – Dr. Ashutosh Gupta - has assured authorities that admitted are receiving “timely treatment.”
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Office has expressed grief and condolences to all affected and has made arrangements to compensate the families of the dead with Rs. 2 Lakh each and Rs. 50,000 per head for the wounded. India’s President Draupadi Murmu and Congress Party Chief Mallikarjun Kharge have also conveyed their sorrow. Hopefully, those surviving this road accident will soon be on... the road to recovery while the deceased gain passage to their heavenly destination.
