Want More Summer? These European Cities Stay Warm in October
Planning an October escape? A new study compares European cities by temperature, sunshine and rainfall, with Cyprus, Greece and Spain dominating the warm-weather destinations.
Dubai, 29 Sep 2026: Travellers looking to extend summer into October still have plenty of options across Europe, with several southern destinations offering warm temperatures, long daylight hours and relatively low rainfall.
A new study by Maaltalk compared European cities using four October weather indicators: average high and low temperatures, monthly sunshine hours and precipitation. Mediterranean destinations dominated the warmer end of the study.
Limassol in Cyprus topped the study, with average October highs of 27°C, lows of 17°C, 287 hours of daylight and just 16 mm of precipitation. Paphos followed with average highs of 25°C and particularly mild nighttime temperatures of 21°C.
Rhodes ranked third, recording average highs of 24.6°C and nearly 265 hours of daylight. Spain also featured strongly, with Santa Cruz de Tenerife in fourth and Alicante in fifth. Santa Cruz records average temperatures of 23°C during the day and 21°C at night, while Alicante reaches an average high of 25°C.
Faro in Portugal, Athens in Greece, Funchal in Portugal and Málaga in Spain also made the top 10. Valletta in Malta completed the list, with an average October high of 25°C.
For travellers who prefer cooler autumn weather, northern European cities offer a very different experience. Bergen, Ljubljana, Reykjavík, Helsinki and Oslo were among the lowest-ranked destinations in the study, with cooler temperatures, fewer daylight hours or higher rainfall.
The study shows that October can still be a good time to enjoy sunshine and warm weather in parts of Europe, particularly across Cyprus, Greece, Spain, Portugal and Malta.
