Abu Dhabi, UAE, 16 October: Tadweer Group is visiting Japan this week as part of a wider delegation alongside ne’ma (the National Food Loss and Waste Initiative). The partners are in Japan for learning opportunities, understanding best practices in the waste sector and exploring areas for further cooperation.
Eng. Ali Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and CEO, Tadweer Group, commented: “Our visit to Japan, alongside our partners at Emirates Foundation, is a critical step forward in harnessing learning opportunities and exploring partnerships with our peers. From reducing food waste, to technological advancements in waste conversion and textile circularity, it is our pleasure to meet our Japanese counterparts and understand best practices we can leverage in the UAE. With the support of like-minded partners, we will continue unlocking the value of waste, further elevate our waste conversion projects, and contribute to global sustainability ambitions.”
His Excellency Ahmed Taleb Al Shamsi, CEO of Emirates Foundation, and ne'ma’s National Steering Committee Deputy, said: “As we continue to navigate the complexities of sustainable development, Japan's exemplary practices in minimizing food loss and waste, and implementing effective waste management technologies, serve as valuable models. The challenge of food loss and waste is multi-faceted, affecting food security, environmental sustainability, and economic efficiency,”
“As part of ne’ma’s mandate to reduce food loss and waste in the UAE by 50 percent by 2030 in line with UN SDG 12.3, we are eager to exchange knowledge on advanced methodologies and technologies with our Japanese partners. Together, we are taking meaningful steps towards a more sustainable future, ensuring that precious resources are utilized efficiently and mindfully.” Al Shamsi concluded.
The delegation is meeting with multiple Japanese entities and government bodies, including Marubeni Corporation, Hitachi Zosen Inova AG (HZI), and Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport & Urban Development (JOIN). The consortium of partners is working closely with Tadweer Group and the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) on the upcoming Waste-to-Energy plant. In addition, Tadweer Group explored building a cutting-edge plastic chemical recycling plant in Abu Dhabi with strategic partners, with more details to be announced on this in due course.
Tadweer Group is poised for international expansion and growth with the creation of its subsidiaries and onboarding global partners to progress its target of diverting 80% of waste from landfills. The organisation is also prioritising the incorporation of the values of the circular economy in its practices and was recently recognised by the Gulf Sustainability Awards for this concept.
