So should you watch it in the theatres or not?
Well, the short answer is Yes and here’s why.
It’s the trademark Sreeram Raghavan dark thriller, with human relationships at its core.
Like we see in life - no one’s really a villain. We all have shades of grey and bad times. Like that of Marry, who is straddling her mute daughter and her teddy bear all alone, on a cold and dark christmas eve, in the 1980s Bombay and Albert, a loner with a dark past.

But don’t get too excited because it all plays out slowly between the characters, with more talk and less action. The overall premise is predictable, the big twist is a bit preposterous and the runtime is longer than expected. At one point, I actually thought ki film khatam ho gayi par phir se shuru ho gayi.
But when all of this is happening, you can find entertainment in Sreeram Raghavan’s nuanced eye for detail, the hauntingly cheery musical score and his expert recreation of the festive Christmas spirit in a bloodsoaked story.
Katrina puts in an honest effort and succeeds for most part but it’s Vijay Setupathi who steals the show with his likeable demeanour, south indian accent and organic humour. All done with fine restraint.
Merry Christmas isn’t Sreeram Raghavan’s best but better than many films you have or will see in Bollywood. yes, it is reviewron recommended.
