Alia Bhatt Faces Flak for Personal Item
The Bollywood star is under fire for flaunting a controversial handbag.
It seems Bollywood megastar Alia Bhatt has been branded as something of a hypocrite. The vocal animal rights activist and star of Amazon Prime series 'Poacher' which is about illegal ivory smuggling, has been caught doing something quite unethical. At a Mumbai event recently, she was spotted carrying a controversial leather handbag.
Oh, it’s not that the accessory is valued at a staggering $2,800. The item just happens to be made from calf leather. That’s the claim by a Reddit user anyway and it’s stirred up quite a hullabaloo. The critic on the social news aggregation online has led to others expressing disappointment and rage that celebrities’ actions are not in consonance with their causes. “Be a hypocrite like everyone else”, vented one user. “But at least be smart enough to do it behind the camera.”
Alia is the first Indian to be chosen as brand ambassador for Gucci. The Italian luxury house says that the handbag in question has been manufactured from “premium fine leather” with distinctive design and superior craftsmanship. Nevertheless, Alia finds herself in this controversy a mere two weeks after promoting 'Poacher'.Let's hope this doesn't become an elephantine issue. And about the calf leather, one can only say, "Holy Cow!"
