Movie Lovers, Take Note: Sharjah Art Foundation Unveils Free Summer Cinema Programme

Dubai, 25 June 2026: Sharjah Art Foundation is inviting film lovers, families and culture enthusiasts to enjoy a summer of free cinema with the launch of its new Sunday Cinema Club, a weekly programme combining film screenings, discussions and hands-on workshops.

Running every Sunday from July 5 to August 30, 2026, at the Photography Gallery in Al Manakh, the initiative aims to bring communities together through shared viewing experiences while exploring different cinematic traditions and storytelling styles.

The programme is divided into three themed series. The first, Summer of Wonder, features family-friendly animated films including Song of the Sea, Sirocco and the Kingdom of Winds and Mirai. The screenings explore imagination, self-discovery and emotional growth through visually rich storytelling.

The second segment, Lunar Visions, takes audiences on a journey through the history of science-fiction cinema. The selection includes A Cosmic Voyage, Journey to the Moon and Stanley Kubrick's iconic 2001: A Space Odyssey, showcasing how filmmakers imagined space exploration long before it became reality.

The final series, Uprooted Realities, focuses on identity, belonging and displacement through landmark Arab films including West Beirut, Omar Gatlato and The Time That Remains. These works offer powerful reflections on personal and collective experiences across the Arab world.

Each screening will be followed by a talk or workshop designed to deepen audience understanding of the film's themes, historical significance and cinematic techniques.

All screenings are free and open to the public, although seating is limited and advance registration is recommended.
