West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Suffers Serious Injury
The Chief Minister of the Indian eastern state of West Bengal was admitted to hospital with a wound on her head.
The Chief Minister of the Indian state of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has been known to stand on her own throughout her illustrious political career. However, the founder and leader of the regional India Trinamool Congress or TMC seems to have lost her balance on the evening of Thursday, March 15, 2024. The 69-year-old who has been in reasonably good health of late, suffered a nasty fall on the premises of her Kalighat residence in south Kolkata.
According to initial reports, it is unclear whether the CM was pushed or stumbled of her own accord. Whatever the case, it appears to have been a nasty spill as the political leader suffered a bleeding gash to her head and an accompanying concussion. “Didi’s” nephew and TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee had the patient rushed to the state-run SSKM hospital. There, she underwent immediate treatment. The strong-willed woman was soon deemed in stable condition, following which she was discharged and taken home.
Mamata’s brother Kartik Banerjee brought the media up to speed about the situation. “Initially, she was assessed by the senior doctors of the neurosurgery, medicine and cardiology departments and her vitals were stabilised”, said the calm gentleman. “Three stitches were applied on her forehead and one on her nose and the required dressing was done.” He concluded by saying, “Investigations like ECG, echocardiogram, CT-Scan and Doppler were conducted.”
Mamata has previously endured a close call where her health is concerned. In March 2021, after filing nomination papers in the Nandigram district, unknown assailants pushed her against her car and slammed the door on her foot. The incident prompted a backlash from her supports, but the culprits were not identified.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has wished Mamata a speedy recovery after her accident. After all, governmental work stops for nobody and Didi is the type who will be back on her heels in no time. Plus, Mamataji has been West Bengal’s political chief executive for 12 years now and she’s nowhere near ready to step down.
