Saif Joins List of Injured Actors

It looks like acting in films can be quite a perilous venture. Just ask veteran Saif Ali Khan. The 53-year-old Tanhaji star recently underwent surgery on a tricep. The reason? - A mishap while shooting the upcoming Telugu release Devara: Part 1. The injury, which was caused from aggravating an earlier strain, occurred while Saif was performing a stunt.

Having to avail of a mandatory time-out, Saif was admitted into the upscale Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. The accident was ill-timed, one could say. Saif’s current movie is important as it comes on the heels of his commercial failure Adipurush. However, his present situation looks promising as he was discharged from hospital on Tuesday, Jan 23.

On being taken home by his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif waved in acknowledgement to the Paparazzi, who were peeking from outside his house gate. He seemed miffed at how the media had exaggerated his condition but controlled his emotions while delivering the following statement: “This injury and the surgery that followed is part of the wear and tear of what we do.”, Saif said. “I am very happy to be in such amazing surgical hands and thank all well-wishers for their love and concern.”

But Saif is only one in a string of actors to encounter painful occurrences on set. While filming Farah Khan’s upcoming release of Happy New Year, Shah Rukh Khan was the accidental target of a crashing door which left him bloodied and bruised. Previously in his career, King Khan had incurred more damage, including cracked ribs, a neck injury and a broken backbone. Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh received a frightful gash on his cheek while on location for his Feb-release Gunday. His back and foot too came in for punishment while making earlier films.

More seriously, Hrithik Roshan needed surgery for a head injury while shooting for Bang Bang in Thailand. Then, during the filming of Hasee Toh Phasee, starlet Pariniti Chopra was hit by a camera matt box which literally turned her black and blue. And Shahid Kapoor got burnt on his back and arms while shooting a risky fire scene.

It is customary for actors to be spurred on with the phrase: “Break a leg!”. But the actors mentioned above could do without such physical torment. It appears they are risking life and limb in portraying people who fight… life and limb.
