One of Bollywood's heartthrobs – Mithun Chakraborty – hospitalised after a sudden stroke has now been dischraged. According the latest update from news agency PTI, Mithun was discharged on Monday afternoon. He also stressed upon the fact that he was "absolutely fine" and would resume shooting for his upcoming films.
Mithun revealed that he had received a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, and that he “got a scolding for not taking care of his health”.
The veteran actor and one of India's most prolific entertainers, was rushed to hospital in Kolkata at 10:30 am today Feb 10, 2024. The admittee had reportedly been complaining of chest congestion. There have even been unsubstantiated claims that the 73-year-old star and former Rajya Sabha MP suffered a stroke. Earlier, the hospital had shared in an official statement that Mithun has been diagnosed with an Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident (stroke) of the brain.
While his family issued a detailed public statement later about the Boxer and Ghulami star’s condition, a supervising doctor at Apollo Hospital confirmed that the celebrity patient was undergoing tests and treatment.
However, the former megastar’s son Mimoh kept trying to allay fears by playing down his father’s hospital visit. He apparently told the media that the trip was simply for "a routine check-up" and that his father is “100 per cent fine.” Mithun who is also a BJP Leader, had been dividing his time between political party work, roles on screen and appearances on TV shows. His most recent gig on the small screen was as a judge on Dance Bangla Dance. And the Disco Dancer star knows a thing or two about shaking a leg.
The septuagenarian seems to thrive on staying active and is far from throwing in the towel. Indeed, the indefatigable entertainer who debuted in the1976 Mrinal Sen movie Mrigayaa, went on to be a major box office draw for the next two decades and was recently honoured with a Padma Bhushan award. Testimony to his boundless energy are the recent hits he scored with Kick (2014), the Tashkent Files (2019) and the Kashmir Files (2022).
Even though, Mithun might be relegated to more of supporting roles, he still registers a strong presence and charisma. He has even proved to be an enthusiastic sportsman, taking possession of the football in a Kargil benefit match against the Indian cricket team back in 1999. Fans and the Indian movie industry will hope he remains alive and kicking for many years to come.
