Is Karan Johar's brand new Japanese restaurant in SoBo Reviewron Recommended?
Review of Oju by Neuma in Colaba, Mumbai — a refined Japanese restaurant offering authentic flavours, strong vegetarian options, premium pricing, and a stylish rooftop ambience. Reviewron Recommended.
Mumbai, 6th Feb 2026: South Mumbai has a new Japanese address worth talking about — Oju by Neuma, the latest restaurant venture associated with Karan Johar, located in Colaba.
We chose Oju to celebrate my brother Samir’s birthday, and also to answer the big question — is it Reviewron Recommended?
The restaurant is a dimly lit, air-conditioned rooftop space with a glass ceiling and lush plants that set a calm, upscale mood. You can choose open seating or a more private indoor area that houses the bar, where some thoughtfully crafted cocktails are on offer.
The menu leans strongly towards authentic Japanese flavours, and the staff — including the chef — were helpful in guiding us through vegetarian-friendly options.
We started with a Mushroom Miso Soup, clean and comforting, followed by a Spinach Salad where the goma dressing delivered depth and the crispy leeks added texture.

The Crispy Baby Potatoes were interesting but confusing — a mix of Japanese, Korean and Mediterranean notes — and honestly, skippable. The Vegetable Gyoza, however, was a clear win: soft, comforting, and very dimsum-meets-momos.
For sushi, we played it safe with Avocado Tempura and Cream Cheese, while the Vegetable Kimchi Rice worked well as a main.
Dessert sealed the deal — the Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse is indulgent, balanced, and a no-fail ending.
Prices range from ₹500 to ₹1,200 per dish, portions are modest, but vegetarian options are plenty. This is Reviewron Recommended — especially if you genuinely enjoy refined, authentic Japanese cuisine and don’t mind paying for the experience.
