An Extraordinary Illuminated Star at Mall of the Emirates Has Become the Talk of the Town
Mall of the Emirates unveils Kochab, a giant illuminated star installation lighting up Dubai’s festive season. Open until Jan 20, 2026.
Dubai, UAE – December 24, 2025: Mall of the Emirates has introduced a spectacular new festive attraction that blends art, light, and storytelling — Kochab, one of the largest indoor hanging illuminated stars in the region. Suspended above the mall’s iconic atrium, the installation instantly transforms the space into a glowing celestial experience and a must-visit photo destination this festive season.
Designed to feel like a star captured mid-orbit, Kochab sparkles with thousands of shimmering reflections, creating a visual spectacle that draws families, shoppers, and content creators alike. The installation invites visitors to pause, look up, and experience a sense of wonder — turning everyday mall visits into memorable festive moments.
The name Kochab is rooted in astronomy. Known as Beta Ursae Minoris, the star once played a crucial role in navigation, guiding travellers long before modern instruments existed. By choosing this name, Mall of the Emirates connects festive décor with deeper themes of direction, discovery, and humanity’s timeless fascination with the night sky.
Crafted by global lighting specialists MK Illumination, the installation brings together creative design, advanced engineering, and sustainable lighting solutions. Measuring an impressive 10 metres in width, Kochab’s multi-dimensional surfaces scatter light across the atrium, creating a constantly shifting play of brilliance that feels both futuristic and poetic.
More than just seasonal décor, Kochab positions itself as a new festive landmark for Dubai — a symbol of togetherness, imagination, and shared celebration. While traditional holiday icons remain part of the season, this glowing star offers visitors something refreshingly different: a festive experience inspired by the universe itself.
The Kochab installation will be on display at Mall of the Emirates until 20 January 2026, making it one of Dubai’s standout attractions for the holiday season and early New Year visits.
