‘Jassi Weds Jassi’ Wins Hearts at its International Premiere in Dubai

Jassi Weds Jassi had its international premiere in Dubai on December 11 at Grand Cineplex, Grand Hyatt Dubai. The screening drew a mixed audience comprising members of Dubai’s Indian, Pakistani, and Arab communities.

Directed by Paran Bawa, the film is produced by Soma Singh Deo and Mazahir Abbas under the Divinity Studios banner. The cast includes Harshvardhan Deo in the lead role, along with Ranvir Shorey, Sikandar Kher, Sudesh Lahiri, Grusha Kapoor, Manu Rishi Chaddha, Rehmat Rattan, and others.

Set in Haldwani, Uttar Pradesh (now Uttarakhand) in 1996, the film follows Jaspreet—also known as Jassi—whose search for love takes an unexpected turn when another character named Jaswinder, also called Jassi, enters the picture. The resulting confusion forms the basis of the film’s narrative.

Speaking about the film, director Paran Bawa described it as a story rooted in Punjabi culture, combining humour and emotion through its characters. Producer Mazahir Abbas added that the intention was to create a light-hearted family entertainer. Lead actor Harshvardhan Deo said portraying Jassi allowed him to explore a character driven by innocence, romantic idealism, and youthful enthusiasm.
