God Save the King: He’s Got Cancer

London, UK, Feb 6, 2024: It seems cancer isn’t sparing anyone these days. The latest to fall victim to the disease is none other than King Charles III, Head of the British Empire. The 75-year-old monarch seemed to be in the pinkest of health only last September, when he officially and ceremoniously ascended to the throne. But now after a trip to the doctor, the royal entity has discovered that he is suffering from a similar illness to the common man: 18 million cancer patients to be more precise. However, the Royal Charlie can breathe easy as his condition was detected at an early stage and prompt attention will most likely save him from becoming a mortal statistic.

The King’s illness was discovered quite by chance during one of his trips to the hospital. He had been seeking medical treatment for nothing more than an enlarged prostate when the malignancy was uncovered. A report from Buckingham Palace confirmed that the patient is in stable condition, but will continue to refrain from attending public engagements till further notice. Furthermore, the particular type of cancer in question is yet to be divulged. It is something of a dilemma for the figurehead to call in sick, considering the very public nature of his role. Still, doctor’s orders are doctor’s orders. Nobody can pull rank on the medics in such a scenario.

Perhaps, aiding his quick convalescence will be the fact that he is going to have a special relative at his side. Yes, the King’s younger son Harry is making a trip from his home in Montecito, California to pay the top patriarch a long overdue visit. The British Royal Family has been embroiled in quite a public spat, ever since the Duke of Essex and is wife Meghan opted out of their capacity as working royals in 2020.

Exacerbating the tensions, Prince Harry released a tell-all book recently, highlighting the animosity within England’s top family. Understandably, Meghan will not accompany her hubby and instead remain at home with their two small children: Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. What else is a persona-non-grata expected to do?
