Freak Accident at Al Jaddaf Dock, Bur Dubai
Concerned authorities rush to the site of a very strange occurrence.
A car collides with a boat! Yes, that was the nature of a most unusual accident on the afternoon of Monday, September 16th, 2024, at the Al Jaddaf Dock in the Bur Dubai locality. According to the Ports Police Station, the mishap occurred when a white sedan skidded off a pier and crashed into a parked yacht, as the road vehicle plunged into the water.
Two young men aboard the car were able to make a miraculous escape. Indeed, the driver and passenger wriggled their way out of the broken windscreen as it had shattered from its impact with the yacht. The survivors of the disaster then swam to safety. No persons were reported onboard the boat at the time of the collision.
On receiving a distress call at about 2:20 pm, divers from the Marine Rescue Division swung into action. They ensured the safety of the two escaped men before descending to the sea bed to assess the sunken car’s condition. Then, the team utilised a crane and harnesses to fish out the vehicle and return it to its upright position on the dock.
In a subsequent statement for the press, an official of the Division stressed the necessity for vehicle maintenance and the following of safety regulations, while urging marine users to avail of the “Sail Safety” service which alerts authorities of marine mishaps. One hopes that better sense prevails in the future and that rash or negligent drivers remain on the path to safety and keep... their heads above water.
