Two Major Dubai Bridges Open to Ease Traffic
In addition to these new road additions, another long and broad bridge will be receiving traffic soon.
Talk about a bypass operation for better circulation. Just such a phenomenon is underway in Dubai as the Road Transport Authority (RTA) opened two new bridges on September 15th. These two constructions are to ease the traffic flow from Dubai’s major thoroughfare – Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road - especially during congested peak hours.
The first bridge, which features two lanes and is about 600 metres long, can hold as much as 3,200 motor vehicles per hour. It has been designed and built to benefit traffic flowing eastward from the busy Garn Al Sabkha Street to Zayed Road and then heading north to Al Qusais and Deira. This bridge is estimated to cut travel time from 20 minutes to 12, a reduction by about 40 per cent.
The other new bridge - also two-laned - endeavours to split clogged traffic from Zayed Road southwards to Al Yalayis Street and Jebel Ali Port. This elevated roadway stretches 664 metres and can also take on 3,200 vehicles every 60 minutes, while reducing travel from 21 minutes to a mere 7.
But that’s not all. Come October 2024, a 943-metre long bridge will open for traffic and will accommodate a volume of 8,000 cars and buses per hour. This ambitious project, which is 97 per cent complete, will join the intersection of Garn Al Sabkha Street and Al Asayel Street. The comprehensive new roadways will come replete with street lights, traffic signals and storm water drainage networks... ensuring motorists reach home and dry.
