Donald Trump Found Guilty in Hush-Money Trial!
Despite the trial result, Trump remains defiant and combative.
After several weeks of court proceedings, former U.S. President Donald Trump has been convicted in the infamous Hush Money trial by a New York court. The 12-person jury delivered the unanimous verdict on Thursday, May 30th, 2024. Following the outcome of the trial, Trump earns the dubious distinction of becoming the first American President to be found guilty of a crime.
And it’s not just for one felony, but a grand total of 34. These include ledger entries and cheques paid for legal expenses as well as falsifying business records and concealing hush money paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Daniels claimed that Trump’s lawyer had paid her USD 130,000 to keep mum about a sexual encounter she had had with the former national chief executive in the run up to his successful 2016 Presidential campaign.
The development has further besmirched the former Prez’s already tarnished image. While Daniel who took the stand on May 8th to testify against Trump was not available for comment about yesterday’s verdict, Trump told that media that the trial’s result was “rigged and disgraceful” and that he is a “very innocent man.” Meanwhile, the White House released a statement saying the country’s top institution “respects the Rule of Law.”
Trump, who faces at least 4 years in prison and several hefty fines, will have to reappear in court on July 11th for his sentencing. As of yet, there is no telling how this development will impact Trump’s presidential candidacy in November this year. However, miraculously enough, one major nationwide poll has shown that 80 per cent of his supporters will go ahead and vote for him, while the remaining 20 % are uncertain. How’s that for a billionaire and TV personality’s star power?
