Emirati Student Turns CO2 into Clean Fuel, Wins Global Award
A Sharjah youth has discovered this revolutionary new procedure.
Crude oil might still one of UAE’s top exports. But now a young son of the soil has actually shown a way to help the nation wipe off its carbon food print. The ingenious 11-grader - Saif Hassan Ibrahim Karam – from the Sharjah Model School, has innovated a chemical compound that sucks in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and turns it into non-polluting renewable fuel.
For his extraordinary invention, the young Chemistry enthusiast bagged third place at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) which took place in the U.S. earlier this month. The pre-collegiate event where Saif made his mark is aptly titled STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). The brilliant young man achieved this feat by surpassing 2,000 other participants from over 70 nations. His own homeland had earlier recognised the ground-breaking potential of the youngster’s discovery, handing him the Emirates Young Scientist Award.
Saif’s fantastic achievement has not surprisingly dazzled the top brass of the UAE government - in particular: the Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology – Sarah bin Yousif Al Amiri . Her Excellency posted her congratulations on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), calling Saif’s “global achievement”, a “remarkable feet”. Also waxing complimentary was the Emirates Schools Establishment (ESE), wishing Saif “more success and excellence”. Hopefully, Saif’s creation will be put to abundant use and never run out of gas... especially since this is healthy gas.
