Sharjah Market Goes Down in Flames, Ruler to the Rescue

A severe fire erupted at a marketplace in UAE’s Sharjah emirate in the early hours of Thursday, July 25, 2024. The Sharjah Civil Defence Authority received a distress call at 3:14 am and rushed to the site of the blaze at Sharia Market in Al Dhaid City. Although a lot of shops were badly affected, fire- fighters were able to douse the flames before they spread to adjoining establishments. However, the operation took several hours and much effort.

In a noble gesture befitting a popular and caring king, the Ruler of Shahjah has ordered his subordinates to make immediate provisions to set up alternate shops. Indeed, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi has approved a 3-day plan for the news shops to be ready. And these won’t be just bare interiors. The spaces will come fully furnished with counters, chairs, shelves and air-conditioning vents. Financial compensation covering all the shopkeepers’ lost goods is also forthcoming.

As though all this were not enough to reignite the dampened spirits of the affected traders, their Ruler has also set in motion the construction of a proper market in the area. The upcoming complex will house 60 sturdy commercial units, some of which will be handed to those persons whose shops were gutted in Thursday’s fire. Meanwhile, forensic experts have been tasked with cracking the mystery surrounding the cause of the fire. After all, where there is smoke, there certainly is fire.
