Attempt on Donald Trump’s Life!

Former U.S. President and Republican Party nominee for the Presidential elections later this year - Donald Trump - had a close shave with mortality on the afternoon of Saturday, July 13th, 2024. While crowds of supporters gathered at his campaign rally in Buttler, Pittsburgh to lend him their ears, it looked like one trigger-happy attendee had set his sights on Trump’s own ear.

As several shots rang out, Trump was noticed grimacing and placing a hand over his right auditory orifice before ducking under the podium. Security personnel darted to his rescue, covering him with their bodies and cautiously yet hurriedly, taking him off stage to safety. In his trademark theatrical style, Trump defiantly pumped his fists and yelled out while departing. One bystander was reportedly killed in the incident while two others are said to be in critical condition.

Secret service authorities who immediately retaliated to “neutralise” the perpetrator, stated that he had positioned himself at an elevated place outside the rally ground. Reports revealed that the shooter bore all the hallmarks of a sniper but had no identification on his person. Investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Pennsylvania state police are underway in what appears to be a gross lapse of security. Meanwhile, Trump has left the hospital after treatment on his wound. Several politicians the world over have condemned the incident, including Trump’s rival and current U.S. President Joe Biden, who said, “There is no place in America for such violence.”

The U.S. is no stranger to assassination attempts on Presidents or former Presidents. Those political chief executives who survived bullets with their name on it include Theodore Roosevelt, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and Barrack Obama. However, Abraham Lincoln, James A. Garfield, William McKinley and John F. Kennedy were not so lucky, perishing to fatal wounds. In comparison, the very fortunate George W. Bush of course, merely had a shoe thrown at him. Regardless, as was Trump’s recurring phrase on his long-runnng TV show The Apprentice, he would probably tell his would-be assassin: “You’re fired!”
